The war for liberation will be a multidimensional one. Liberation will only be accomplished by use of constant and multifaceted attacks to the systems of exploitation. In order to dismantle an industry so enormous in scale, a one-track approach will not be sufficient. To achieve victory, we have to strike our enemies from all sides.
BAAL's approach is based on strategic use of intentional tactics to reach our goals. Where strategy is the long-term plan for achieving the goal, tactics are the specific actions taken to move closer to that goal.
The tactics we utilize are pressure campaigns, direct action and outreach. We will not just dream of a better world for non-human animals; we will fight for it on all fronts.
To destroy a global empire built on violence, we need to prioritize the tactics that will disrupt abusive and exploitative industries the most. Our strategy is based on a hierarchy of impact, starting with the direct actions that save the most lives. While individual behavior change is important, we cannot let our movement stagnate into comfort. We have to find a balance between our time spent trying to change people's hearts and our time spent forcing industries to change. We cannot limit our advocacy to "safe" or "comfortable" activism. For as long as there are still billions imprisoned, it is our duty to fight tirelessly to free them.
Targeted pressure campaigning is our primary method of creating systemic change. A single campaign can influence an entire massive corporate chain to eliminate a cruel product, freeing millions of animals at once.
We punish organizations and individuals who benefit from exploitation by disrupting their personal and professional lives. The chaos we create ensures that participating in animal cruelty is a financial and reputational risk.
We force animal abusers to change for the better despite their greed, by making the cost of cruelty greater than the cost of surrender.
Pressure campaigns have nearly been perfected to a science, and are one of few tactics that have tangible, measurable successes for the animals.
Open rescue is the ultimate act of defiance against a corrupt legal system. We expose the horrors that have been hidden from the public eye and liberate prisoners in the light of day.
We use open rescue to challenge the idea that sentient beings are "property". The media attention and public divide forces individuals to make a choice. They must either side with the law, which blindly protects the abusers, or side with rescuers, following their own sense of morality, justice, and respect for life against the grain.
Starting these conversations about what is right helps raise general awareness and consciousness about exploitation behind closed doors. It also restores freedom to those who have had it stolen from them.
We stand in unwavering solidarity with The Animal Liberation Front (ALF) and their autonomous direct action. If the oppressor writes the laws, we will support those who break them.
The ALF grants immediate liberation through the removal of individuals from confinement in labs or farms. They are also known for strategic economic sabotage of those who profit from murder and exploitation. The intense actions of the Animal Liberation Front provide a level of disruption to businesses that other forms of activism could never hope to touch.
Per the North American Animal Liberation Press Office:
"Historically, those wishing to participate in direct action have gotten together with others they could trust of like mind and just started doing actions. ALF cells operate independently, and typically are begun locally by like-minded individuals who get together and decide to take action against animal abusers. Only you can decide what action to take, when to get started, and how much longer the animals must wait for liberation.
Public engagement, like Cubes of Truth or street activism is a recruiting mechanism. It's a way to bring in the numbers necessary to fuel our high-impact actions and rescues. Educating people who have open hearts helps drive them forward on their journey, and each new activist is another voice for the voiceless.
